ロンドンギャラリー白金では、4月9日より橋本雅也「間なるもの」展を開催いたします。

It is our pleasure to announce the opening of an exhibition of works by Hashimoto Masaya, Things in Between, on April 9, at our Shirokane location.

橋本雅也は、鹿の角・骨を素材とした彫刻作品で話題となった作家です。全国を巡回した「超絶技巧」展よりもさらに繊細で儚げな作品は見るものを魅了することでしょう。

今回の展覧会では、彫刻作品だけでなく新たに平面作品にも挑み、橋本雅也・便利堂・ロンドンギャラリーによる共同制作として、ポートフォリオ（コロタイプ印刷）を制作しました。

ポートフォリオには橋本自身が厳選した過去の作品4点が納められています。ディテールまで美しく再現できるコロタイプ印刷だからこそ、滑らかで繊細な表現に仕上がりました。

ポートフォリオは限定15セットを販売いたします。

また、本展では彫刻作品やポートフォリオとともに作品集も販売いたします。

作品集には橋本の今までの代表作や新作など約15点の作品が静謐なモノクロ写真で納められています。美術評論家の布施英利氏等が読み解く橋本雅也も掲載されており、内容が濃い作品集でございます。

未曽有の事態により作品集の刊行が大幅に遅れてしまいましたが、今回漸くみなさまに新作や平面作品とともにお披露目できることを嬉しく存じます。

Hashimoto Masaya is the much talked about artist who makes sculpture using deer antler and bone. The recent exhibition "Amazing Craftsmanship! - From Meiji Kogei to Contemporary Art" that traveled around Japan has drawn even more attention to his delicate, ephemeral work.

In addition to sculpture, in this exhibition Hashimoto Masaya, Benrido, and London Gallery have collaborated to produce a collotype print portfolio of the artist's work, which features four sculptures selected by the artist himself. The collotype printing process reproduces photographs in beautiful detail, and results in a soft, sensitive expression. A limited edition of 15 portfolios will be offered for sale.

Along with the sculptural works and portfolios, we will also be offering a newly published anthology of Hashimoto's work. It features gentle black and white photographs of 15 of the artist's sculptures, including both new works and those made in years past. It also features an essay about Hashimoto's work by Japanese art critic Fuse Hideto, and more penetrating content.

Due to the unprecedented conditions of the past two years, publication of the anthology has been greatly delayed, but at long last we are able to share both new two-dimensional and three-dimensional works with you all. 近くに咲いている植物を積んで持ち帰り、机に置いて鹿の角を彫る。季節の巡りの中で、この作業を繰り返して10数年が経ちましたが目の前の植物の「咲いている」感じは依然として写し取る事ができません。その周縁を繰り返し巡りながらも、翌年には少し見えている景色が変わっています。変わらず抱き続けている生命への憧れは、この円環状の軌道にどのような作用をもたらしているのでしょうか。

切り花は摘み取られる以前よりも、時に強い生命力を感じる事があります。室内に持ち込むことによって際立つのは、生命のみずみずしさと共に、全ての生き物が生まれると同時に内包する死、枯れていくという危うさでもあります。これまで摘んだ数百という花も枯れることから逃れたものはありませんでした。摘んできた花が枯れるまでの時間に追われるように彫り進めていた手は、最近では追いつこうとすることを早々に手放して、枯れたら枯れたでその姿を彫る位のいい加減さも出てきました。写したいのは咲いた花の形ではなく、「咲いている」感じです。その事を捉えるにはその位がちょうどいいのではないかと今は思っています。「枯れた」物ではなく「枯れていく」事をどうしたら写し取れるのか。この問いが「花が咲く」事にいつか繋がるまで、もう少し続けてみようと思います。

I gather plants that are flowering nearby, take them home, place them on my desk, and carve deer antlers. With the changing of the seasons, I have continuously engaged in this process now for ten years, yet I remain incapable of capturing the sense of "flowering" that the plants before me possess. Circling the area repeatedly, the landscape I see changes slightly from year to year. What action has my fascination with the unwavering continuity of life caused as I take this circular path?

At times I sense a life force in the flowers I have gathered that is even stronger than before they were cut. What becomes apparent after bringing them indoors is not only the freshness and vibrancy of life, but also the threat of death, which is inherent in all living things from the moment they are born. Of the hundreds of flowers I have plucked to this day, none have escaped this fate. I used to race against time to carve before the life had left them, but recently I have done away with this, and taking a more relaxed approach, I carve the form of the flowers even after they have wilted. What I want to produce is not the forms of the flowers themselves, but rather the sense of "flowering" that they possess. I believe this new approach is the best way to capture this feeling. How can I produce not something "dead", but rather something in the "process of dying"? I would like to continue exploring this question until I can connect it to the idea of "flowering".
