残暑が長引いたかと思えば、この頃は急に寒くなってまいりましたが皆様いかがお過ごしでしょうか。

さて、ロンドンギャラリ－白金より展示替えのお知らせをいたします。

今回皆様をお迎えいたしますのは約1年ぶりの登場となります長谷川等伯の「花鳥図屏風」でございます。

Just when you thought the summer heat would never pass, it suddenly became unseasonably cold and it feels as if we've already entered early winter. We hope this finds you all well.

After not being seen for nearly a year, a pair of screens entitled Flowers and Birds by Hasegawa Tōhaku (1539-1610) welcomes visitors to the latest rotation in our Shirokane gallery.

本作は、右隻には桜や柳、野薔薇や立葵など春と夏の情景が描かれております。

そして左隻には秋と冬が描かれ、四季花鳥図なのかと思えば、左隻には芙蓉に始まり紅白の鶏頭、黄濁葵さらには菊花など秋の花々が咲き誇っております。

左隻の画面の中には冬の水仙などは描かれず秋の景色だけが広がっております。

春夏と比べると少し淋しげなイメージのある秋ですが、本作では秋は静かなだけでなく豊饒なのだということが伝わってきます。

その他、ヨーロッパの建造物を彷彿させるような建物が描かれた司馬江漢の「寒柳水禽図」や平安時代の十一面観音立像、梵天立像、男神像などの彫刻なども展示しております。

The right screen depicts spring and summer, with cherry blossoms, willows, wild roses, hollyhocks, and more. In the left screen, we should have autumn and winter, making what you might think to be a pair of screens depicting the four seasons. However, it is devoid of daffodils and other winter flowers, and depicts a vibrant autumnal scene, with numerous autumn flowers such as the cotton rose, red and white plumed cockscomb, mallow, and chrysanthemums in full bloom.

Autumn has somewhat of a lonely image compared to spring and summer, but in this painting autumn feels both peaceful and bountiful at the same time.

Also on display is the painting Winter Scene: Waterbirds and Willow Tree by Shiba Kōkan (1747-1818), which features structures in the background that resemble European buildings. Alongside, we have sculptures of Jūichimen Kannon, Bonten, and a male Shinto deity on display, all dating from the Heian period.
