展示替えのお知らせ【白金】 8月20日～9月14日

Exhibition Announcement, Shirokane, August 20 - September 14, 2019

暑さが続いたかと思えば、台風に見舞われたりと忙しい夏ですが皆さまいかがお過ごしでしょうか。

ロンドンギャラリー白金より展示替えのお知らせをさせていただきます。

今回皆様をお迎えいたしますのは中国の仏教美術を中心として、敦煌の塑像仏、俑（副葬品の人形）などを展示しております。

As the hot days of summer continue, typhoons have come through and the skies are busy trying to make up their minds between rain and shine. We hope you have found ways to escape the humidity.

This time our exhibition focuses on Buddhist art from China, including stucco figures from the Dunhuang caves, and effigies made as tomb goods.

塑像とは泥土に草木の繊維を混ぜて固め、造形する技法でつくられた仏様を指します。

敦煌石窟は粗い岩層のため、彫刻ではなく塑像仏がつくられたり壁土を塗って壁画が描かれたりしたようです。

We would particularly like to call attention to the figure illustrated below, which was once part of a large installation of some thousand Buddhas attached to the walls of the famed Dunhuang caves. They were molded in stucco, which is a combination of mud and strengthening fibers, then painted in vibrant colors.

頭部だけとなっても、なお凛とし、穏やかな表情を浮かべる仏像を是非ご覧にいらしてくださいませ！

Though some of the works on display are only heads from Buddhist sculptures, they each have peaceful, dignified expressions that we hope you will come to see and enjoy.
