展示替のお知らせ【白金】 10月27日(土)～11月24日(土)

秋晴れの心地よい季節となりましたが皆さまいかがお過ごしでしょうか。

ロンドンギャラリー白金より展示替えのご案内をさせていただきます。

今秋は「仏像の姿」展（三井記念美術館）や「真言密教の宇宙」展（サントリー美術館）など素晴らしい展覧会が多く開催されております。

弊廊でも仏教美術を中心とした展示替えとなりました。

この度皆様をお迎えいたしますのは如来坐像をはじめとした仏像たちでございます。

We hope this finds you well as the clear autumnal skies ring in a change of season.

This year, there happen to be a number of excellent of exhibitions of Buddhist art, including "Giving Form to Buddhist Deities" (Mitsui Memorial Museum) and "Daigoji Temple: A Shingon Esoteric Buddhist Universe in Kyoto" (Suntory Museum of Art). We therefore too decided to hold an exhibition of Buddhist Art to coincide, beginning with a sculpture of a seated buddha to welcome visitors.

こちらの奈良時代の如来坐像は、本体と台座蓮肉からその下の葺軸まで含めて、榧の一木の木芯乾漆座像です。

木芯乾漆は木で原型を造った上に麻布を漆で張り固たものです。全体の漆は取れて素朴な味わいがあります。

奈良時代木心乾漆像の代表作では、国宝に指定されている唐招提寺の千手観音像が有名です。

This sculpture dates from the Nara period (710-794), and is thought to have been the core of a dry lacquer sculpture, with both the figure and the first section of the pedestal immediately below having been carved from a single piece of wood. Originally, this would have been wrapped with hemp cloth and finished with multiple layers of lacquer, but with all of the lacquer and base material gone, we have a sculpture with very plain, simple finish. Perhaps one of the best known dry lacquer sculptures from this period is the Senju Kannon sculpture in the temple Toshodaiji, which is registered as a National Treasure.

その他、二十五菩薩来迎図や愛知切 無量義経なども展示しております。

Also on display is the Buddhist painting Descent of Amida with Twenty-five Bodhisattvas, and a fragment of the Muryojikyo sutra known as Aichi gire.
